Dog Hopping – What Does it mean when your dog is hopping on 3 legs?

dog hopping

Is your dog hopping? Or lame on one leg?
It is likely that they are in pain, or something is not functioning properly.
The best thing to do if your dog is consistently hopping on 3 legs is to have your vet assess them first.
However I have written some ideas and tips to prepare you for considered outcomes.

Like us on Pinterest or Facebook for updates and more helpful information on your Fur baby.

What Does it mean if your dog is hopping on a hind leg?

It depends on whether the hopping is intermittent or continuous.

Continuous Hopping or lameness – This is when the animal is non weight bearing on a limb. Its normally cause by an acute Injury or accident. This will need to be examined by a vet to confirm what is causing the non-weight bearing on the affected limb.

Intermittent Hopping or lameness – This is when an animal occasionally displays a lameness or hops off of a limb.
Again a veterinary examination of the limb is needed to confirm a correct diagnosis.
However likely examples of causes are luxating patella, Cruciate ligament tear or weakness, and osteoarthritis.

What should you do about your pets hopping?

As stated above Veterinary diagnosis of the exact cause is essential.
However you can look into physio and home management or even prevention options.

Even if your animal is diagnosed with one of the conditions stated about Physio rehabilitation therapy can drastically improve and sometimes even prevent surgical interventions.

Are Ginger Cats Always Male?

are ginger cats always male

Are ginger cats always male? No, although ginger cats are more likely to be male there are some female ginger cats.

Are Ginger Cats Always Male? No! Why Does It Seem We Only See Male Gingers?

The ginger colour gene is attached to an X chromosome, because of this ginger males are more common. They only require one copy of the X gene containing the ginger strain. This makes it easier for male cats to be ginger.

Females require two x chromosome genes and therefore need two copies of the X / Ginger Chromosome, statistically, this is less likely. making ginger females less common than males.

There are predominantly more ginger male cats than female.

are ginger cats always male

So it’s easy to see where this theory started. Male ginger cats are more common and the majority of ginger cats will be male.

Having a female ginger cat is almost rare… that’s pretty cool and makes having a female ginger cat something unique.

A combination of an epic name and a female ginger cat would be something to brag about to fellow cat lovers.

are ginger cats always male

Are ginger cats always male is a common question in the vet clinic and one I wasn’t sure of the answer too which is why I decided to research and then write this post.

Mystery solved. No ginger cats are not always male but more interestingly is how unlikely they are to be female.

Makes me want to celebrate the next female ginger cat I find! You can be sure I will snap a cute photo and post her ginger beauty on our fakebook page.

As always Thanks For Reading.

My Dog Has Upset Stomach Episodes Why? What Should I Do?

If your dog has upset stomach issues regularly, It could be food allergies. Regular upset stomach episodes are a common symptom of food allergies in dogs.

dog has upset stomach

My Dog Has Upset Stomach Episodes – What Are Food Allergies?

A Food allergy Is an immune system reaction, usually occurring after a dog eats certain types of food.
Common allergies include protein sources from meat. Grain allergies do exist but are uncommon in dogs.

Allergies are formed early in a dog’s life, as they are growing, and exploring different foods and meat sources.

What Are The Signs Of Food Allergy, Other Than My Dog Having An Upset Stomach?

Upset tummy or gastro symptoms are a sign of food allergies, but they are not the only one.

Also common is skin issues and flares. These include ear infections. Ear problems are indeed skin problems.

A common misunderstanding is that ears are separate from skin problems. Ears are in fact bone and cartilage covered by “Skin”.

Constant anal gland problems can indeed be caused by food allergies also.

What Can I Do When My Dog Has Upset Stomach Episodes?

The best thing you can do during an episode is to move your dog to a plain simple diet. Something that doesn’t have multiple protein sources in it.

Often recommended is boiled chicken and rice. However, your vet has many diets available and designed to aid a dogs upset tummy. The best option is to talk to your vet and have your dog examined.

Also, make sure your dog has good access to water. Gastro episodes can be dehydrating on a dog’s body. Access to plenty of fresh water is essential if your dog has upset stomach symptoms.

dog hasupset stomach

How Can I Find Out If My Dog’s Stomach Problems Are Food Allergies?

The best way to determine if your dog has a food allergy or multiple is to perform a food elimination diet trial.

I have written an in-depth post about how to complete a diet trail which you can take a look at here: Performing a true food elimination trial on your dog.

Be wary of trying grain free or raw diets to try and determine or help a food allergy. Not only are they expensive but they aren’t likely to help.

Grain allergies are uncommon in dogs and your dog is most likely going to be allergic to a meat protein source. Therefore moving to raw diets that contain multiple minced meat options will not help either.

Even moving to a single protein source won’t help. Often meats are cross-contaminated through manufacturing and preparations with other meat sources.

Luckily your vet will have diet options for you to perform a true food elimination trial on your dog correctly. These diets are created specifically and are balanced so your dog does not miss out on any key nutrients that they need.

Important things for owners to do and look for during this life stage:

Keep up with vaccinations when due, flea and worm prevention is a must, your cat may require regular grooming if they have a medium or long coat.

A yearly health check with your vet to go over, diet, teeth, body condition, and having their heart checked via stethoscope is always a great idea. Make sure to book your adult cat in for an annual check over. This is also a perfect opportunity to stock up on flea and worm products.

Keep your cat on a balanced veterinary recommended diet.
At this life stage, a veterinary recommended Adult food is needed.
Good nutrition can prevent health problems down the line so it is an investment in their future.

Keep in mind now your cat is de-sexed they are more prone to weight gain. If keeping the pounds at bay is proving to be a struggle talk to your vet about neutered diets, these diets are lower in calories and designed for de-sexed cats.

Cat Years To Human Years – Cats At 5 Years Old

Thirties – Forties – 30 – 49 In Human Years.

A 5-year-old cat is still in the “Adult” life stage. They are accustomed to you and their environment. Have their routines, likes, and dislikes. To which you are well aware of. Still weighing an average of 4-5kg your active cat is well and truly part of the family.

A middle-aged cat should be fit as a fiddle. If you have been following this guide from the beggining the your kitten de-sexed on time, kept on good nutrition from the start, and has had regular flea and worm control.
You have organised vaccinations when due and an annual check-up with the vet to look over you kitty.

Give yourself a pat on the back your an amazing fur baby Mumma/Dadda that is one lucky cat.

Birman Cat

Important things for owners to do and look for during this life stage:

Keep up the good work, schedule needed vet visits. Don’t forget to protect your cat from flea and worms, and remember prevention is cheaper than dealing with an infestation in your home.

Continue with good nutrition, it is an investment in their health. We are what we eat and that goes for your cat too.

During this life stage your cat will start to enter the geriatric life stage, aww I know that’s probably hard to read. Don’t we all wish they could stay 6 months old forever?

Nutrition wise their needs might change if they become less active then moving to a senior diet is a good idea. Also a yearly blood test with your vet is a great idea. This helps keep an eye on their basic liver, and kidney functions.

Detecting any health concerns or issues early makes a big difference in both treatment or management so don’t skip an annual check-up with your vet.

Fifties – Seventies 50 – 79 In Human Years.

Congratulations on taking care or your cat for 10 years!

Cat Names Male

Important things for owners to do and look for during this life stage:

Annual checkups and blood tests are a must. Older cats are prone to renal failure, diabetes, and more. Catching them early can help with treatment and management options tremendously.

A senior based diet is often lower in calories and proteins. Higher in omegas for joint health and mobility. If not already consider switching your senior fluff ball to a more suitable diet.

As always keep up with flea and worm treatments. Don’t miss vaccinations when due.
Joint supplements aren’t necessary if your cat is on the right diet. So always check with your vet before adding something new and potentially expensive.

Month 6 Blogging Update

Dog Sleeping On Bed with owner.

Hay everyone, this one a little later than normal. Life has been full-on.
If this is your first time here check out my other months here: Blogging News Updates

To the blogging update. Month 6 has been strange. It started off swimmingly and then Pinterest threw another wobbly at me and now I’m in this weird, my accounts not flagged but somethings not right with it phase.

Im suspecting an algorithm update did not go my way. Unlike Pinterest jail, my traffic didn’t completely disappear just dramatically fell over the course of a few days. Gradually decreasing by about 70-80% sigh.

After joining some Pinterest groups I can see there are a lot of people just as frustrated as me and dealing with the same. So fingers crossed Pinterest gets it sorted and all will be well again.

Anyway trying to stay positive and I’m continuing to use the platform and try some new techniques.

what kind of dog owner are you

Seo has improved and continues to yay! I worked hard on AMP and updating my content and keywords. It’s slowly paying off which I’m pleased about.

I’ve signed up for amazon affiliate and giving it a go, at last, I’m nervous about their minimum sales needed within 128 days but I’m going to give it a crack. It has so many options for my niche and I love the products available.

I disliked being limited to products I hadn’t used myself or not having the options or styles I would recommend. It feels good to be able to promote stuff I would want or already have myself.

However currently I have not made a sale, perhaps affiliate marketing isn’t for me. But I’m happy to persevere for a bit longer and see what happens.

Im doing more research into it and building my knowledge as I fumble along.

Do Cats Remember people.

Omg, the spam comments people!! Crazy im getting like 10-20 a day! sooo frustrating. If your a spammer searching throughout this post you can just click the bright red x and leave. I will just delete you.

Ok rant done haha

Goals for this next month blogging.

Work on my email list.

Run a giveaway on Facebook to help boost my reach.

Create some giveaway content to help owners with skin problem pets. I have written a lot of great content on pet skin issues. I am proud of it so I would love for it to be getting more traction.

That’s it from me, ill do another update in a month. Fingers crossed for success and fun.
As always, thanks for reading.

How to Include Your Dog At A Wedding.

I love the idea of pets being a part of a couple’s special day. They’re family after all and deserve to be there. I personally had my dog at our wedding and I cherish the photos and memories. Check out my tips, based on experience, for how to include your dog at a wedding.

How To Include A Dog At A Wedding

Tip #1 Including your dog at a wedding.

Make them the ring bearer!!

This is what I had my dog do at our wedding. The best man cut the rings off my dog’s collar and then handed them to our celebrant.

Family members love jobs, especially on a special occasion like a wedding. In my experience, I have found there aren’t enough jobs to go around.
So this is an opportunity for another job. Someone needs to be in charge of the fur baby.

It needs to be someone the dog is familiar with, so a family member or close friend is essential.

We purchased a special collar – This helped “Zack” our Australian shepherd, hold the rings. It was easy for my husband’s best man to cut the ribbon, release the rings, and keep the ceremony flowing seamlessly.

Since our wedding in 2017, there are many more options available. My favorites are as follows:

My Fur Baby was a boy but here’s a Cute Collar For Female Dog

Wedding Collar

Or this adorably neutral pillow to suit any dog!!

Tip #2 Including A Dog At A Wedding

Have them come up the aisle. Whether it be before, during, or after, your dog can come running up the aisle with a cute outfit, flowers, a sign, or best of all just them beautiful selves.

Lady Kissing dalmation

Having the distraction of watching your adorable fur baby trot or gallop up the aisle will break the ice before, add fun in between or be a beautiful finale to the ceremony.

There’s no loss in my opinion, even if they break loose and give everyone slobbery kisses, and cause a ruckus. Who cares? It is all fun and games? I mean why is anyone who doesn’t like dog kisses at your wedding anyway?

Check out these adorable options for outfits and accessories your dog can wear whilst they run up the aisle.

Tip # 3 – Including Your Dog At A Wedding

Just Having Them There.

If you don’t need them to have a moment in the spotlight, or your dog would prefer to just watch. Just have them there.

Designate someone they know well, to be there care for the day.

Having them there in something cute gives opportunities for photos and memories.

dog cuddles with owner

Tip #4 – Including A Dog At A Wedding.

Have a photoshoot with the dog. If you have a shy or anxious dog that won’t cope with a ceremony environment. Arrange to have some time and photos with them.

Whether it be before or after the ceremony. With the bridal party or without. It is your specials day and if having your dog involved in some way, is what you want then do it.

I do not regret having photos with my dog on our special day. I cherish them and have them all over my walls at home now.

Whatever you decide to do I wish you the happiest of days! Furbaby hopefully involved and dressed to impress, alongside their owners.

Please if you go ahead I would love photos! You can post them to my Facebook page and encourage others to go for it!

Burmese Cat Rescued From Strangers Garage After Missing For 8 Weeks.

Burmese cat rescue
Burmese cat rescue

Evie the cuddly Burmese cat has an incredible survival tale. Prompting us to share this Burmese cat rescue story.

Shortly after moving with her owners to a new rural property, Evie went missing.

The owners had intended for Evie to get used to her new home for at least a week or two before going outside. However, “Evie is incredibly smart and quick’ her owners say. “She loves being outside”.

After only a few days of being in their new home, Evie found her way outside an open door.

Evie had never lived on a rural lifestyle block location before. “One of the dogs quickly spooked her before we could get her inside and that was it, she was gone” the owner’s relay.

lost cat scaled

“We didn’t panic for the first day or two, Evie is an intelligent cat and she also has a lot of sass”

Evie had been known to sulk with her owners, especially if something didn’t go her way, generally hiding in her igloo and occasionally disappearing for a little while.

‘We were hopeful she would make her way back once she had cooled off”

Still, every-night we searched, called for her, and we put food out for her. In case she decided to come back in the calm of the night

missing cat

After 2 days, Evie’s Owners decided she was now defiantly lost. They were devastated.

We did everything called vet clinics, spread pamphlets, advertised everywhere we could, and called all the local cat shelters. Nothing.

Evie was nowhere to be found.
‘We felt sick every night and especially when it would rain’ Her owners said.

“We got desperate, we created pamphlets, begging if someone had found her and decided to keep her. Could they anonymously come forward and let us know”

‘I couldn’t stop checking roadkill every night wondering” ‘We just needed to know if someone had her and that she was ok’

8 long weeks of torture had passed, when the owners got the best phone call they could ever have hoped for.

A couple had come back from their holiday in Europe, to find a very skinny and pissed off Evie locked in their garage.

They Took Evie to the nearest vet clinic, as she was very malnourished. Evie was micro-chipped so it didn’t take long for the vet clinic to track down Evie’s Owners.

‘ It was an amazing feeling, the relief is indescribable, We had never given up, we just felt she was still out there and thankfully we were right”

Evie was very underweight and dehydrated. She had I/V fluids at the vet clinic before finally coming home.

“She was so hungry!, she slept in the food bowl waiting for her next small meal”. Evie’s owners had to feed Evie gradually in small amounts so her little stomach could get used to small volumes of food again.
