If you’ve ever adopted a cat or had to re-home one yourself. You’ve probably asked the question do cats remember people??
Do Cats Remember People??
The answer is yes of course! but the next question is for how long? A recent study proved that cat’s short term memory, although better than dogs is still not great.
So if a cat was with a person or family for a very short period of time, then the likely answer is no they won’t remember them long term.
Do cats remember people??
Do Cats Remember People forever?
This is a much trickier question. There have not been many studies done on a cat’s long term memory.
It is believed that if a caring connection was formed for a longer period of time 6months +, then it is likely a cat will be remembering a person for much longer.

Do Cats Remember Being Mis-treated?
For those of you who have adopted a cat who was previously abused or mistreated. The likelihood of them remembering the abuse is believed to be high.
It all depends on how long the abuse went on for. How painful and traumatic the situation was.
As I said earlier 6 months + of a caring relationship is enough to stick with a cat’s long term memory.
However negative relationships have a nasty habit of sticking with us and unfortunately animals, and including cats more easily.
Cats remembering their abusive pasts can lead to behavioral issues and fears of strange things so be patient with them.
It is unknown how long a cat’s long term memory Is but it is believed with time these behaviors will improve and memories will fade.

Do Cats Remember Peoples Faces?
Although cats have excellent visual recognition, it is not how the recognize us. They identify their close contacts and owners via smell and sounds.
Did you know cats rubbing themselves all over you, is how they mark you as theirs? Cats have ‘ scent glands’ in-between their whiskers which is why they rub themselves on furniture and people. It’s a cat’s way of marking their territory.
Most cats will identify their loved ones by the sound of their voice. So do cats remember people? Yes but their faces? Not so much.

Hello again everybody, another month done and dusted. Can’t believe its been 5 months already. Well here’s my latest blogging news.
After last months disaster of being put in Pinterest jail and having my traffic slashed almost entirely. This month has been all about clawing my way back.
Blogging News – Month 5 – Coming Back From The Dead.
So gradually, I have managed to get a steady stream, of traffic back, and again mostly from Pinterest Sigh!
SEO is finally happening it is slow were talking 7 visits through SEO but I’ll take anything I can get.
Facebook is also growing but very slow, I get a small amount of traffic now but I will continue to work at it.
Instagram I’m still figuring out, I get a lot of hearts/likes, and followers. However, I’m not sure how much traffic/engagement I’m actually getting out of it.
The Traffic Is Back But I Still Have My Struggles.
I’m back at work now pretty much full time + I have two small children.
Keeping up with new blog content, social media, Pinterest and analysing SEO, Analytics, and search console. Well it’s been a push.
However, I’m still here trying = ) and still loving it.
Financially there isn’t really much to talk about its still very low/non-existent.
Ads make next to nothing and I have been trying affiliate marketing for a while now.
I need to search out some cool niche products. I am looking into printables and creating my own e-book/courses. This will all take time though so I don’t see the financials improving for a while.
Blogging News – On The Bright Side
This post is sounding a bit depressing so lets finish it with the months highs!
Despite the increased time pressure im still producing content and loving it.
I am helping pet owners across the globe especially with skin. It feels so rewarding to be achieving pretty much the main goal of this blog to help pet owners.
I truly feel I will crack this blogging business I’m very determined and I really want this to work as its something I enjoy.
I would love to help pet owners more.
So increasing my traffic, content and financials will help me continue to grow this.
I have focused more on writing about what i want to write about. I fell into a bit of a trap of writing SEO subjects to get traffic and grow.
To be honest id rather go this the slow way and grow knowing im creating good content.
To Sum It All Up
Wrapping up Month 5’s Blogging news..
I’m still here tapping away, researching and learning this online blogging business world.
As much as id hoped to create a solid following by now with a steady income to cover my costs, I’ve realized its just takes a lot longer than they say on those ‘make money blogging posts’
There are many reasons or multiple ones at once, to be honest. yeast, bacteria, mites, and confirmation issues can all lead to itchy paws/feet.
The question you really need to be asking and answering is whats causing the symptoms. Itchy feet is likely just the symptom of an underlying skin condition.
One easy reason and fix could be mites. In the clinic where I work almost every case receives a good flea/mite treatment. As treating is cheaper than going looking with diagnostics.
Make sure you use a good product. OTC, general store products just don’t cut the mustard. You need a veterinary recommended product. The one we always turn to is Bravecto.
A bravecto Chew to be specific as it has a claim for mites. I highly recommend making sure you have ruled mites and fleas out, by using an effective product.
Skin Conditions That Can Commonly Cause My Dog Chewing His Feet
Like I said at the beginning of this post, Yeast, and bacteria infections make feet itchy. They need to be treated by your vet properly. However, they are often just a symptom of the underlying cause.
Then you can check out my allergy posts below. Both go into detail about allergies in dogs, whether they are caused by food, environment, or sometimes even both!
Some breeds in particular are prone to this. Bulldogs, Pugs, Corgi’s, and Dachshunds.
If the paws/feet are misshapen, under excessive pressure, and parts of the pads that shouldn’t normally are contacting the ground due to poor conformation.
Then this can cause rubbing, pressure sores, interdigital cysts, and then from there infection makes its way in.
Bacteria and yeast infections, again being the symptom of poor conformation (The Cause).
So what can you do? It is tricky but not hopeless you will most likely need to look more at management options with your vet or veterinary dermatologist. Here are some tips I can give you to think about.
If your animal is overweight, weight loss can help take the pressure off the pads.
Booties can be worn when exercising to help protect the pads and prevent broken skin leading to infections.
In severe cases, surgery may be an option to change the shape of the paws/feet leading to better conformation.
However, you need your vet or a veterinary dermatologist to confirm this is the cause. You must rule out allergies and mites as well.
In Conclusion
Why Is My Dog Chewing His Feet. You now know its likely multiple reasons. Yeast and bacteria infections are the symptom from most commonly an underlying skin issue.
You may have started reading this post hoping I was going to give you a simple hack like apple cider vinegar spray followed by coconut oil.
Well If I thought that was actually going to work I would have written a post about it. Enough said really.
I hope this post has inspired you to go looking for the cause of your dogs itchy feet through your vet or better a Veterinary dermatologist.
As always thanks for reading and good-luck finding the cause xx

About BFPA
Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is an all-breed, all-foster (no physical shelter), dog and cat rescue organization, based in Wake County, North Carolina. Since our establishment in 1998, we have rescued and placed over 3,800 cats and dogs into their forever homes.
Our Mission is to give all rescued animals a chance to find their forever home, no matter their medical condition. Whether it is a senior, a pregnant mother, a heartworm positive dog, or an animal who needs immediate surgery, BFPA does not turn away or euthanize an animal due to the expense involved in returning them to good health.
All of our rescued animals are evaluated for temperament, examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered (when age-appropriate). They also receive monthly flea/tick preventative while in our care. Dogs receive monthly heartworm preventative as well.
Equally important, we provide all rescued animals with the loving care of a foster home until we find them their forever home, however long it takes. We thoroughly screen potential adopters in an attempt to ensure a good fit for them and the animal involved so that we minimize mismatches which can result in further trauma for the animal as well as the adopting family.

Cat vs Dog, Dog vs Cat, it is a big question, and luckily one that can be answered easily.
There are a lot of differences between cats and dogs. Which makes deciding which is better for you more straight forward than you might think.
Cat Vs Dog – How To Decide 1:
Are you looking for a best friend or more a quiet flatmate? Dogs are more like mans best friend where a cat will come and go as they please.
So just ask yourself, what is it you are wanting from the relationship when deciding cat vs dog?
Some prefer the idea of the quiet cuddly comfort of a cat. Others are looking for someone to take on life with, a companion to go for a run with, or walk the tracks.
Cat vs Dog – How To Decide #2
Do you have a busy social life? are you out in the evenings wining and dining with friends? Then a cat is the better choice for you, cats are good at being alone for long periods of time when compared with dogs.
As long as a cat has a cat door to get outside, food, and water. You can leave them for a guilt-free evening, knowing they have everything they need.
Leaving a dog at home for long periods of time isn’t a good option, dogs love the company. A life of being left home alone is not a life you want to sign a dog up for.
So if you prefer to hibernate at home whenever you’re given the chance. Then no issues with having a dog or cat. Both will be more than happy to join you.
Cat Vs Dog – How to Decide #3
Do you like to exercise? are you a runner or a walker? If so then a dog is for you!
A constant companion for your adventures and one that will be just as enthusiastic about it.
If you enjoy getting out and about on tracks and beaches then you can’t go wrong with an energetic furry companion by your side.
Rather the company of a good book than the great outdoors? Then a cat to snuggle on your lap paints the perfect picture. Although dogs are also happy to cuddle, they need to exercise, so if your not one for daily walks, consider a cat instead = )
Cat vs Dog – How To Decide #4
Can you handle a little bit of mess? Now arguably both cats and dogs are capable of creating a ruckus.
But I believe the overall winner has to be a dog. Between shedding hair, toileting, chewing, and bringing in the dirt they outnumber cats. On the mess front anyway.
However, cats are not mess-free and can cause mischief as well. If you’re not the best with the mess, but want a companion then a cat might be the better choice for you.
Mess doesn’t worry you then a dog is still on the cards. Dogs create a lot of entertainment through their mess making.
Cat vs Dog – How To Decide #5
Still struggling to decide??
Well, consider this, are you a person that likes to host? or do you prefer you’re own company? If you love having guests around all the time. Then a cat would be better for you.
Generally dogs like attention and when guests arrive it can cause a lot of excitement.
If you don’t like the idea of your guests being slobbered over or a dog causing a commotion every time the doorbell rings. Then I would say a cat is winning this cat vs dog discussion.
If your a person who has doggie lovers for friends or the thought of hosting numerous dinner party events makes you nausea’s. Well there is no reason to worry about getting a dog.
To Sum This up…
Deciding is easy you just have to ask yourself the right questions! I hope this post has helped you come to a decision.
If you found that you’re suitable for both a cat and dog in your life. Why not just get both? The more the merrier I say.
Always consider adopting a dog or cat, there are so many fur babies that need homes.
Also consider buying your pet supplies from Entirely pets as they donate a percentage of every purchase to a Best friend Pet Adoption Program, A great cause to help pets find homes.
That all depends on personal preference. Its an ongoing debate between cat and dog lovers globally. Personally I am team dog!
Why you should get a cat instead of a dog?
Depending on your lifestyle and accommodation one may be better suited than the other. Cats are believed to be more affordable but dogs are preferred as better company.
Who is smarter cats or dogs?
It is believed by recent studies that dogs are indeed smarter, studies have shown they have more brain neurons when compared with cats.
Hip dysplasia is where either the greater trochanter of the femur bone or the pelvis acetabulum is miss-shapen or deformed. This results in a deformed hip joint.
Meaning in none medical terminology, the hip joint doesn’t fit/function properly. There is either not enough room for normal joint ROM ( Range Of Motion/ Movement) resulting in restricted hip movements.
Or the joint has excessive ROM (too much movement) due to the hip not being supported by the pelvis. Resulting in joint instability.
Signs Of Hip Dysplasia In Dogs
So how will you know if your dog or puppy has hip dysplasia? Well here are 5 common signs dogs with hip dysplasia show or do.
Hip Dysplasia In Dogs #1
Hip Sway
Does your dog walk like their heading down a catwalk? A common sign of hip dysplasia in dogs is a hip sway.
Instead of the classic smooth up and down motion of their hind end, they sway their hips, side to side, like their about to hit the dance floor.
Hip Dysplasia In Dogs #2
Bunny Hopping
‘Bunny hopping’ This is when a dog tries to run or speed up, instead of moving like a horse into a graceful trot, canter, and then gallop. Instead, They look like a bunny rabbit hopping through a field.
Both hind legs hopping together as their hips struggle with normal ROM or instability..
Hip Dysplasia In Dogs #3
Side sitting
Do they side sit? Normally a dog should sit with both knees tucked to their sides. Like those Egyptian statues of cats and dogs.
However, if they are sitting on their bum with their legs to one side, this can be a sign of hip discomfort.
It should also be noted that side sitting can be a sign of Knee issues. For example, cruciate ligament, patella, and arthritis can also cause a side sit position.
Hip Dysplasia In Dogs #4
Laying froggy style
Imagine a frog laying flat on its tummy. Its legs would be flat to the ground in an “m” shape.
If your dog is laying this way frequently then it can be a sign of excess ROM in the hip joint. Many dogs with Hip Dysplasia Like to lay this way.
Hip Dysplasia In Dogs #5
They Are Reluctant To Jump In The Car Or Go Uphill.
Jumping and climbing uphill requires hip extension which is something hip dysplasia dogs struggle with.
So if your dog is reluctant to do these normal activities, book and appointment with your vet to have their hips checked.
What Can I Do To Help My Hip Dysplasia Dog?
Taking your dog to the vet for a proper diagnosis is obvious, if you are seeing the signs listed above Don’t hesitate to see your vet if you have concerns.
Your Vet can prescribe the necessary pain and management medications. Do not use anything as a replacement for veterinary advice.
Often what isn’t obvious is what you can do to manage them at home long term? both post-diagnosis and if young and eligible post-surgery.
I have worked as a small animal physio for 4-5 years.
Hip Dysplasia patients were common in our practice so I am here to give you some tips.
Tip #1 Swimming – Swim, Swim, Swim, And Then Swim Them Some More.
Swimming is amazing, not only is it great exercise but it is also the better way to give a dysplasia or an arthritic dog a workout.
There are often many options, from heated hydrotherapy pools to underwater treadmills available for dogs. Even swimming them in your local river is better than not swimming them at all.
Swimming takes all the weight and pressure of the joint. Allowing muscle to build and help support a weak or compromised joint. All the while not causing inflammation and pain like other land based activities.
However, Avoid uneven surfaces like sand, gravel and stones. Uneven ground is not a friend for an unstable joint. This is why a registered swimming facility is better than the beach or river.
Especially for larger breed dogs, that are not easily carried to the waters edge.
Tip #2 Get Them On A Good Diet
Don’t muck around. Dysplasia is a joint disease and often leads to OA Osteo Arthritis. There is no need for joint supplements, or fish oil, and glucosamine.
Veterinary based, science made diets have it all in their specific joint diets.
These dogs need good nutrition to feed the right nutrients. Diet can play a huge role in how long a dysplasia suffering dog can remain mobile.
Talk to you vet like yesterday! about what diet can help them the most. Be wary of home remedy diets and raw feeding. Veterinary recommended diets are science-based.
Your vet recommends them for a reason and no its not for money!
Tip #3 Heat And Cold
Keep them warm especially in the winter. Doggie electric blankets, wheat bags, and sleeping inside the house rather than outside.
Keeping the cold away in the cooler months makes a big difference to a Dysplasia and/or arthritic dog.
Cold – Now I’m talking Ice packs, you can use these when you know they have overdone it.
For example, you’re out for your daily walk and bang! an excited puppy comes running up to your dysplasia / Arthritic dog. Your dog loses their mind for a minute and acts as though nothing has ever happened to their joints.
You know there will be repercussions to their mad 5 mins. ICE! get in there before the inflammation does. Ice pack them like you just sprained your ankle.
30 mins on 30 mins off for 1-3 days depending on the severity of the flare. then back to keeping them warm and heated.
Tip #4 – Keep Their Core/Abs Strong.
Yep – just like humans a strong 6 pack helps everyone.
A strong core will help your dog move, balance, and compensate for their sore joint/s.
How is it done? well its easy! Tummy tickles!!!
Literally, while your dog is standing in front of you give their tummy just that, a little tickle. Now Watch as their back arches up and they do the doggie version of an ab crunch!
You can not over do tummy tickles, 100+ a day is good work! A strong core is a great asset for both humans and dogs.
In Conclusion…
Hip dysplasia in dogs is when the hip joint doesn’t fit/function properly.
Signs your dog has Hip dysplasia:
Hip Sway
Bunny Hopping
Side sitting
Laying froggy style
They Are Reluctant To Jump In The Car Or Go Uphill.
Tips To Help Manage Them
Always take them to your vet first for appropriate diagnosis and medication.
The anatomy of a dog ear is different from that of a human, their ears are actually “L” shaped. This makes dog ear infection symptoms, harder to see, and especially so, from just looking at the surface of the ear.
A veterinary otoscope is just to look deep down into the ear canal and gives the vet the chance to see the signs of infection in the ear itself.
Dog Ear Infection Symptoms:
Early Signs Of Ear Infections Include:
Head-Shaking – Flapping the head and ears side to side, or even just little flicks of one ear.
Scratching the ear/s – Or pawing at them with both front and hind paws.
Smelly odor – Coming from the ear itself.
Discharge or redness – When examined noticeable redness, inflammation and discharge coming from the ear/s.
Advanced / Chronic Dog Ear Infection Symptoms.
Head tilting – The ear will be very uncomfortable and inflamed, the dog will likely tilt their head down to the infected ears side, in an attempt at relief.
Balance Issues – Ears play a part in balance, so when severe infection enters the deep middle ear, the dog may struggle with walking and keeping their balance.
Foul odor – By now the infection will be causing a distasteful smell, likely noticeable at even a small distance from the dog.
Facial paralysis – The ear contains sensitive nerves so in cases of severe infection and inflammation, these nerves can become aggravated
Pus, blood or large amounts of discharge coming from ear.
What To Do When You Notice Dog Ear Infection Symptoms.
Take your dog to the vet.
Ear infections that are left will continue to get worse, so when you notice the early signs go to see your vet.
Be cautious of home remedies, without knowing what’s growing/causing the infection, home remedies, or leftover medications can cause things to become worse and irritate the ear further.
Your vet will look to see what’s causing the infection for example bacteria and yeast are common causes. However, they are treated differently.
Remember Ear Disease / Infection Is A Skin Problem!!
If your dog has suffered from reoccurring ear infections. They likely have an underlying skin condition.
If not addressed or discovered the ear infections will continue to return. Always go looking for the cause!
See the many posts I now call the “Problem Skin Journey”. Skin problems are diverse and so there are many reasons your dog could be getting re-occurring ear infections.
Early Signs Of Ear Infections Include: Head-Shaking – Flapping the head and ears side to side, or even just little flicks of one ear. Scratching the ear/s – Or pawing at them with both front and hind paws. Smelly odor – Coming from the ear itself. Discharge or redness – When examined noticeable redness, inflammation, and discharge coming from the ear/s.
What does a dog ear infection look like?
Discharge or redness – When examined noticeable redness, inflammation and discharge coming from the ear/s. Also Smell, Head shaking and scratching are other common signs to look for.
Is an ear infection in a dog an emergency?
Although not considered and emergency. Ear infections will progress and become worse so should not be left long without proper treatment.
Homemade Dog Food, the veterinary industry deal with the repercussions of these diets, almost on the daily and try to educate owners.
People combining different combinations of raw meats and other ingredients to create a so-called ‘natural alternative’ to veterinary recommended dog foods.
Now I will probably get a lot of backlash for this post as doggie diet creators are very passionate people.
They love their pets and truly believe they are doing the best by putting more time and effort into making their dogs diet from scratch. I admire their passion, and love for their dogs. I know they want the best and in our ever-changing human diet fads, it’s no surprise this is happening.
So this has inspired me to write this post to try and educate owners about the dangers of attempting to create a diet from home or dive into raw feeding.
Homemade Dog Food Danger #1
The diet is not balanced. Dogs need the right balance of nutrients to support their individual needs. There are 6 major nutrients, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water.
These nutrients are essential to supporting their life and health. They provide them with energy and the building blocks for repair and growth.
For example, there is a current trend to feed grain-free or move to a meat-only / raw diet. Unless your dog has a proven grain allergy which is uncommon and can only be determined through a true food elimination trial.
Don’t take grains out of their diet. Grains are a highly digestible carbohydrate and protein source for dogs. They cause far fewer allergies than meat protein sources. There is no need to deny your dog something they need.
Homemade Dog Food Danger #2
Bacteria in your home! Now, this one is truly frightening I have seen recent studies showing the growth of multi-resistant bugs growing in the homes of raw/dog food makers.
The findings shocked and scared me, the number of horrid bugs growing on both the owners and their homes was just ugh (gag!)
Homemade Dog Food Danger #3
The so called “natural”
There is a reason raw dog food mincemeat is cheaper. Let us be realistic. The prime cow from the paddock goes to human-grade meat.
Unless they’re claiming its human-grade meat, let us be realistic. It has been mixed up for dog food because it wasn’t fit for human consumption.
I know people do home-made diets from a place of love and I never judge, I just want to educate owners and warn them of the dangers.
Homemade Dog Food Danger #4
Health issues in your dog.
The consequences, health-wise can be astronomical.
For many years homemade diets have cause issues like foreign bodies (Rawbone blockages), Bone bowel perforations, Malnutrition, Skin disease from lack of vitamins, and it still brings me to tears but cases of Rickets!! (calcium deficiencies) which just should not happen in 2020!!
All consequences of raw/homemade diets.
So Please I beg you to really really think about what you are doing and what truly is best for your dog!!!
My advice is always to talk to your vet and use science-based nutrition that has been proven to be beneficial and balanced for your fur baby.
Love From, A very tired, frustrated, and loving vet nurse. Who has seen too many cases of severe illness, due to homemade dog foods.
